“SOTO products have been an essential part of many of my adventures. From the High Atlas mountain range of North Africa to the Himalayan Annapurna range, my SOTO gear has consistently and reliably provided water, food and what many a trekker savours most; a hot cup of tea after a long day on the mountain. This is a brand I believe in, this is a brand that I trust.” (Shannon O’Keefe, Instagram: @shannonokeefephotography)

Wonderfully ideal size @ 1000ml; pot/lid weight is a featherlite 5 oz; Amicus stove weight with pouch is also featherlite at 3oz and boasts a blistering 11,000 BTUs, which is inline with the industry-leading Soto Windmaster. The folding handles are typical coated wire which, if you are not careful with your stove flame, the plastic coating can catch fire and rapidly melt off. And, they don’t lock in place when extended. Not a biggie, really – they are quite sturdy as they are. The biggest downside is the pot does NOT have ml or fluid oz markings on the inside or out. Competing products do have graduated marks. Filling this pot with water to boil for a bag meal requires using some other measuring device to obtain the correct amount of water. Some ways, among others, to solve for this deficiency: 1) Use a drinking cup that has measurement marks, 2) scratch the inside of the pot with markings at intervals you desire; 3) DIY a measurement stick with graduated marks then stick it in the pot as you fill water to the desired mark on your measuring stick. I’ve marked the handle of a long titanium spoon with 1/4c, 1/2c, 3/4c, 250ml, 500ml, 750ml lines using a titanium-tipped engraving pencil. I always carry a long-handled spoon in my backpack mess kit, so this method doesn’t add any additional weight with an additional object. SOTO: please consider adding graduated marks on the New River Pot – it would make it a 10/10 versus a 8/10.
