SOTO’s StormBreaker stove receives this prestigious award February 2019.
The outdoor Editors’ Choice Award honours the products that the outdoor editors have chosen as the most innovative and best performing of the year. The decision is based on extensive field and lab testing by some of the highest skilled equipment experts in the world, who take hundreds of new products every year into the backcountry and the outdoor lab to put them to the test. With no set categories for the awards and no set number of recipients, the products and the testing process drive the award categories.
Since its inception, the outdoor Editors’ Choice Awards has come to be regarded as one of the most sought-after awards for outdoor equipment and apparel found in the industry. The rigorous testing standards of the outdoor editors guarantee that the award is an undisputed mark of quality for the companies and products selected. And each year retail buyers use the award announcement as a must-buy shopping list, knowing that their customers will be asking for these products.
Since 1988 outdoor has been the leading German speaking outdoor publication and ideal for everyone who loves the great outdoors. Every month outdoor publishes exciting day hikes, weekend adventures or the best klettersteig-routes for those who want to get away for the weekend. Additionally outdoor features the greatest backpacking trips all around the world. Equipment reviews, that are acknowledged within the industry to be among the best in the world, and advice on how to get the most out of equipment also play a major role each month.
Is this still being manufactured?
Several sites report it has been discontinued.
This would be sad as it looked really good.
The stove is still being manufactured. However, it is no longer being sold in the US due to the world demand for it. SOTO is unable to meet the demand for this stove at the present time. Headquarters has decided to focus on sales in the EU and not in the US at this time.
There are numerous vendors on eBay offering to sell it.
REI is still offering to sell it.
This stove is available at Bivouac in New Zealand at NZ$339.00. This is an excellent stove.
I have purchased this stove in last month. Since then used twice in my outdoor adventures. I continue to use my MSR burner which has been doing well for the past 10+ years. Positive points of SOTO stove are: easy to transport, less priming and balanced pot holder. Main downsides of SOTO stove are: it requires air pumping just too much. I pumped 1-2 times to boil a kettle of water with my MSR burner. Whereas, I have to pump 4-5 times for the same quantity of water with SOTO. And, of course, higher price compared to MSR for a similar job.
